Damage-Free Steel Coil Transport Hauling steel coils is one of the most demanding jobs in the flatbed industry. The immense weight requires the holding power of Grade 70 chains, but steel-on-steel contact can easily damage the product. At Truck Trailer Pro, our coil protectors are designed to act as a sacrificial buffer between your heavy-duty chains and the valuable coil, ensuring the load arrives at the receiver in pristine condition.
Our coil protectors serve a dual purpose vital for safe transport:
Prevent “Chain Marks”: The sharp edges of a chain link can dig into the layers of a steel coil under tension, causing creases or cuts that ruin the material. Our protectors distribute the clamping force over a wider surface area, eliminating pressure points.
Protect the Bore: When securing through the eye (bore) of the coil, the sharp edge of the steel sheet can slice through a chain or strap. Using a curved bore protector shields your tie-down equipment from abrasion, preventing catastrophic failure.
We stock protectors specifically engineered for the unique shape of metal coils:
Curved Design: Unlike standard flat V-boards, coil protectors are often contoured to fit the radius of the coil or the curve of the bore, ensuring a secure fit that won’t slip out during transit.
Durable Materials: Available in high-impact plastic for surface protection or heavy-gauge steel for maximum durability against chain crushing.
FMCSA Standard 393.106 specifically addresses the securement of metal coils, requiring protection against shifting and damage. Using proper coil protectors not only saves you from freight claims but also demonstrates to DOT inspectors that you are hauling strictly by the book.
Haul with Confidence Don’t let a scratched coil cost you a contract. Browse our selection of coil protectors below and equip your rig with the essential armor needed for professional heavy hauling.
