Truck Trailer Pro stocks every category of heavy-duty truck tarp built for U.S. flatbed, step-deck, dump and oversize trailers โ lumber, steel, coil, machinery, oversize and full custom sizes, all in 18 oz and 22 oz waterproof vinyl-coated polyester, all stamped with the construction specs DOT inspectors look for under 49 CFR Part 393 cargo securement rules. This page is the master catalog โ pick a sub-category below, or use the quick decision guide further down if you are still choosing between lumber, steel, drop height or material.
Every tarp we ship carries the same baseline build: heat-sealed seams, brass grommets every 24 inches, double-stitched hems, reinforced corner pockets, 3-row D-rings on lumber and steel cuts, cold-crack resistance down to -40 ยฐF, and UV-stable color across black, blue, red and custom. Most stock SKUs ship same-day or next business day from our U.S. warehouse, custom builds in 5โ10 business days.
Most drivers waste 40 minutes researching the wrong tarp because online specs read identically. Use this match table โ find the row that fits your load, click straight to the right sub-category.
| If You Haulโฆ | Typical Trailer | Recommended Tarp Sub-Category | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lumber, plywood, pallets up to 6 ft tall | Flatbed | Lumber tarps ยท 6 or 8 ft drop | 3 rows of D-rings catch every strap location |
| Steel sheets, pipe, structural shapes | Flatbed / step-deck | Steel tarps ยท 22 oz | Extra reinforcement against sharp metal edges |
| Steel coils (eye-vertical or transverse) | Flatbed with coil rack | Coil tarps | Pre-shaped bag with heavy webbing |
| Machinery, generators, equipment | Flatbed / RGN | Machinery tarps | Cut to drape over irregular shapes |
| Loads over 8 ft tall or 8.5 ft wide | Step-deck / lowboy | Oversize tarps ยท 10 or 12 ft drop | Longer drop seals down past the deck |
| Mixed flatbed freight, occasional use | Flatbed | Lightweight tarps ยท 14โ18 oz | Easier to throw solo, lower cost per tarp |
| Daily steel/lumber, year-round OTR | Any | Heavy-duty tarps ยท 22 oz | 3ร lifespan vs lightweight under daily use |
| Spec | Lightweight | Heavy-Duty |

“Drop” is how far the tarp hangs over the side of your load โ not how tall the load is. Standard ranges: 4 ft for low pallets, 6 ft for typical lumber, 8 ft for steel and most flatbed freight, 10โ12 ft for oversize. The mistake we see most often is picking drop based on trailer deck height โ it should be based on load height above the deck. For the full sizing math (width, length, drop calculation, 2-piece vs 3-piece sets, U.S. vs international standards), read our Flatbed Tarp Sizes Guide.
Every truck tarp on this site uses a vinyl-coated polyester base โ the only material proven to survive multi-year OTR use without splitting under cold, UV or abrasion. Our standard 18 oz cut is the entry point for daily-use flatbed work; 22 oz is the standard for steel coils, oversize loads and northern-route fleets dealing with regular sub-zero weeks. All seams are heat-sealed, not stitched-only, because stitched-only seams leak after the first hard freeze-thaw cycle. For deeper material comparisons (canvas, mesh, poly vs vinyl), see Tarp Materials Compared.
A tarp is not securement โ it is weather protection. FMCSA cargo securement rules under 49 CFR Part 393 require independent tie-downs (chains, binders or straps) at the prescribed working load limit for the cargo. Your tarp goes on top of properly secured cargo, never as a substitute. The tarp does, however, factor into a Level I roadside inspection: an officer will check for rips, missing grommets and loose flap edges that could become a road hazard. Pair your tarp purchase with the right chains and binders and review the full tarping process guide before you roll.
