New flatbed owner-operators commonly start with around ten chains, ten binders and ten straps, plus edge protection. That is the core of this kit. Winches are usually already mounted on the trailer, and tarps depend on your freight, so both are chosen separately.
How Many Tie-Downs Does a Flatbed Load Need?
Two for the first 10 feet of cargo and one more for each additional 10 feet or part of it: a 48 ft load needs at least six. The combined working load limit must also reach 50 percent of the cargo weight, and machinery of 10,000 lb or more needs at least four tie-downs. See our FMCSA cargo securement guide.

Most flatbed trailers already have winches mounted along the rail, so the kit covers the straps, chain and binders that work with them. Extra sliding winches are sold separately. - Are the items priced differently as a kit?
